Master Deputy Devin Hodges, with the Anderson County's Sheriff's Office, died on June 1, 2017 in a boating accident during training exercises on Lake Hartwell. He leaves behind a wife and four small children, two of whom have special needs.

Children, dressed as their favorite superheroes, met local heroes from the Pickens Police Department, Fire Department, and Rescue Squad during the City's 2017 Heroes and Kids Back-to-School Bash at the Pickens Amphitheater.
