Upcountry Quilters Guild Celebrates 25 Years
Guild's Quilt Show, Held at Pickens View Wesleyan Church, Features 140 Quilts

The Upcountry Quilters Guild, in its 25th year, held its biennial judged quilt show, ‘The Threads That Bind Us,’ November, 2017 in the fellowship hall of Pickens View Wesleyan Church.

The show included 140 quilts made by quilters from Pickens, Oconee, Anderson, and Greenville Counties.

The 20 categories included the Challenge Quilt, Large Bed Quilts-Pieced, Small Bed Quilts-Pieced, Large Bed Quilts-Applique/Mixed Technique, Small Bed Quilts-Applique/Mixed Technique, Large Bed Quilts-Hand Quilted, Small Bed Quilts-Hand Quilted, Large Wall Hangings-Pieced, Small Wall Hangings-Pieced, Large Wall Quilts-Applique/Mixed Technique, Small Wall Hangings-Applique/Mixed Technique, Art Quilts, Computer-Aided Quilts, Modern Style Quilts, Miniature Quilts, Group Quilts, Professionally Quilted-Large, Professionally Quilted-Small, Holiday Quilts, and Miscellaneous.

The Upcountry Quilters Guild currently has 75 members and welcomes anyone at any skill level. The Guild’s stated mission is “to teach and further the art of quilting and to use our quilting skills to help the community.” The Guild offer teaching programs for beginners or advanced, as well as quilting bees, quilting retreats, and trips to quilt shops and quilt shows. Guild members make and donate quilts, including to hospitals and nursing homes, as part of their community service projects.

The Upcountry Quilters Guild meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the All Saints Hall community room of Pickens Presbyterian Church, 311 West Main Street (Highway 183). Their mailing address is PO Box 1493, Pickens, SC  29671.  Yearly dues are $20 for each member.

The next quilt show will be in 2019 and is open to anyone and to quilts that have not previously been in the Upcountry Quilters Guild Quilt Show. Entrants may enter one or more quilts.
