Calling All Bikers …. Ride for the Child 2017 to Benefit Children and Families
Event is a Fundraiser for The Parenting Place
By Karen Brewer

Bikers are gearing up for the 21st annual Ride for the Child motorcycle poker run, a fundraiser for The Parenting Place, on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

The event begins in Easley with breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and registration starting at 10:00 a.m.  At 11:00 a.m., riders begin cruising through nearly 100 miles of country roads, drawing a card at each checkpoint. When the ride ends a little over two hours later, everyone will enjoy music, food, and prizes. $500 is given for the best hand, and $250 is given for the worst.

The registration cost is $10 per driver and $10 per rider and $10 per t-shirt. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

All proceeds for Ride for the Child will go toward programs and services at The Parenting Place, including home visitation for families at risk, parent education classes, parent support groups, anger management classes, and victim services.

The stated mission of The Parenting Place is as follows: “The Parenting Place is a child abuse and neglect prevention agency serving Greenville, Pickens, Anderson and Oconee counties. Through our intensive in-home visitation programs, we aim to reduce child maltreatment; improve parent-child interactions and children’s social-emotional well-being; increase school readiness; promote child physical health and development; promote positive parenting; promote family self-sufficiency; increase access to primary care medical services and community services; and decrease child injuries and emergency department use. “
